We are proud to announce the winners of the 2015-2016 Kansas City Public Schools Outstanding Authors Awards. This program honors secondary students from across KCPS for their superb work in narrative, informative and argumentative writing. Coordinated by KCPS Secondary Literacy/English Language Arts Teaching Methods Coach Scot Squires, the awards are one element of our goal to encourage students to write more, improve the quality of student writing, and celebrate student writing at all of our secondary schools.
Some of Kansas City Public Schools' youngest scholars have access to more reading resources thanks to Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson, his Defend the Dream Foundation, Scholastic Books and IBT Industrial Solutions. Johnson and representatives from Scholastic and IBT helped launch new DJ's Discovery Dens on April 25 at Wheatley Elementary School, April 26 at Melcher Elementary School and April 27 at Faxon Elementary School.
Kansas City Public Schools hosted its 2016 Early Education Forum Tuesday evening, April 19 at Richardson Early Learning Community School, 3515 Park Ave. in Kansas City, Mo. KCPS has made early childhood education a priority. This forum was an opportunity to have a discussion about how we can give our children a smart start.
